  35. Your tip of the day today is a very useful one. I think it shows your clients a little more professionalism :)

    ReplyDelete
  36. Love your tip today. I think new photographers are usually a little unsure about making the suggestions to their clients and now they know that it helps the client to nail down what kind of shoot they want and the photographer to know what kind of shoot they are going to provide! It's great when you ask questions so that YOU (the photographer) knows what is expected of you!

    ReplyDelete
  37. Thank you for the tip today. Now I just need to get out and explore my world some more, so I have several options to choose from!

    ReplyDelete
  38. I am a HUGE, GIANT fan of Wish and of all the vendors!!! Thanks for an amazing give-away and for amazing tips and actions!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  39. I think it's a great tip.......it's nice to give your clients choices; but it's best to have a few locations in mind and have them choose from those! Good thinking!

    ReplyDelete
  40. I am certainly most excited about the Wish prize...awesome mentoring and 12 actions just for one lucky person. That is a super incredible prize! But I also love love love Ritchie Rich. They are all amazing prizes and we are all very lucky to even have an opportunity to win even one of them!

    ReplyDelete
  41. I loved today's tip. It really is about enjoying what we love and getting to do that all the time. There is nothing worse than doing something you love in a place you don't! Gets us all thinking outside the box! Thanks Kandis!

    ReplyDelete
  44. Loved the tip of the day.... That's always something that I worry about! Since I'm just a beginning photographer, I don't have many locations, so that's been a huge question for me... Where do I shoot, and if I let them pick will it be okay for pictures? Thank you!

  52. I shared this blog post on my business page.

    ReplyDelete
  53. I also commented on the tip and I will just paste what I wrote here: Personally I like to design the shoot first based on several things - what the client is looking for (if they mention it to me first), the personalities either via questionaire or friending them on FB. Then I choose the location that would most fit their shoot design and that is also convenient for them based on their location. I always have a backup spot in case they don't like it. But I like to take control over the set up because I feel they hire me because of my vision and trust what I have planned.

    ReplyDelete
  54. I have been a fan of Wish Photography and now I am a fan of all of the Vendors in this gveaway!

    ReplyDelete
  55. Love the tip of the day. By asking the client what they want for photos you can then choose the location that you wish to use. You are right in saying all parties are happy while doing the shoot.

    ReplyDelete
  56. I've been a fan of Wish Photography and am now a fan of all the vendors.

  82. Today's tip of the day was eye opening. I never thought about the difference of a print release vs. a copywright release. Makes so much sense, absolutely looking into adding it into my contract! I'm loving the "tips" part of this giveaway!

    ReplyDelete
  83. Love the idea of adding WHERE you can print the images to a CD. I thought mine was pretty air tight as far as protecting my work, but I absolutely LOVE this idea. Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  84. The tip today was a great one and really clarifies the difference between a print release and a release....thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  85. Tip #2 made me think. I had never realized that there was a difference. The part I find strange is limiting where a customer can print their pictures, and what size they can print. Why does it matter what size they want?

    ReplyDelete
  86. Great tip of the day. I will keep this in mind when I print my new contract for 2012. Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  87. I loved tip #2... Since I'm just starting out I didn't realize you could give a cd and still keep control of your pictures. I gave a cd with pictures without a watermark, not thinking about giving them some with a watermark for uploading to the internet. Thank you! xoxo

    ReplyDelete
  88. Another great tip today! The best tip was that in the print contract I can specify where the photos are to be printed. This gives me some control over the printed quality. Thank you!

    ReplyDelete
  89. I am a fan of all the vendors and wish photography

    ReplyDelete
  90. looked through all of the stores and left them some love...you have some awesome vendors!!!

  95. I visited the vendors stores and loved them all.

    ReplyDelete
  96. I would love to get a custom logo.

    ReplyDelete
  97. I shared about the contest on my page. Where do I find the page with the tips for everyday?

    ReplyDelete
  98. proclaimed about your blog on my fan page! :)

    ReplyDelete
  99. Thanks for the tip about the print release and disc info! The thought never occurred to me and I'm so thankful you posted about it! Problem solved! I left a comment and suggested possibly a book/files of tips you could sell to others like myself looking for a bunch of info in one place. :)

    ReplyDelete
  100. Thank you for the video today. I always place your videos to my favorties so when I am using your actions and I have questions I rewatch them all the time. You rock!

    ReplyDelete
  101. I liked your tip today. When I first started I took every photography job that people would hire me to do. It wasn't long before I realized I had zero desire to shoot weddings. I enjoy children and tween shoots the most. And once I get the okee-dokee from my surgeon and can get back to work, I am revamping my whole portfolio to reflect it! (Although I still love maternity shoots too and will continue those!)

    ReplyDelete
  102. Great tip today! It makes sense that people would book you for what they've seenyou can do. Makes me want to have a second look at my portfolio.. Maybe take out some newborn shots ;)

    ReplyDelete
  103. Thanks once again for sharing your knowledge and experience. What an excellent point. I wouldn't ask someone to take pictures of my newborn if all they had in their portfolio is weddings. :)

    ReplyDelete
  104. Thanks for the tip today! I've definitely thought that I should take any job that comes along, because that's how you get started, but I never thought of how I would be getting hired for what I was displaying. Thank you!

    ReplyDelete
  105. Great tip of the day....in the beginning of my photography days I shot a wide variety. Now I focus on what I truly enjoy...kiddos,high school seniors and families. I agree, promote the type of work that you enjoy to shoot.

    ReplyDelete
  106. Today's tip: I'm literally going outside in the sun tomorrow in and trying this.

    ReplyDelete
  107. Great tip for today...Now is the sun would only come out in Wylie, Texas, so I could try it!!!

  108. I am a fan of Wish Photography and all the vendors. Great Giveaway!! Ammie Bryant

    ReplyDelete
  109. The tip for today about capturing light was awesome. I am glad you made the video though. I have tried explaining it to people and just never felt that I explained it correctly. Glad I have a reference point now!!! (And I just loved Ava in the video too! I think she is getting more comfortable with all of us!!!!)

  114. I la-la-laahved the tip today! (the one actually for today haha ;) I adoooore the yummy light in your photos, and I always wondered how you got it! Because even on my darn point-and-shoot I have trouble with shooting into the sun. YAY! Thank youuu! :D

    ReplyDelete
  115. I feel so smart today. ;-) Usually I feel like an ignorant child when you share information. Not that you make me feel that way, but usually I didn't have any idea of what you are talking about. Today I did. Yay for me. Although I do really like and appreciate learning new things from you. Thank you!

    ReplyDelete

  126. No tip of the day today? :(
    Ammie Bryant

    ReplyDelete
  127. I like the tip of the day...it's a great idea to take a portion of what you make and invest it back into your business. Whether it's a new lens, awesome actions, or a step up in your website...it's a good idea to put some of your hard earnings back into your business. Thanks! :)

    ReplyDelete
  128. I personally love your tip of the day...No matter what business your in, it requires that you put money into it's growth. I also happen to think the camera and the glass is just as important as knowing how to use them. I know a lot of folks who can take extremely good pictures with an iphone...but show up at a shoot with only an iphone and see how many more bookings you get.

    ReplyDelete
  129. I loved your tip of the day! It's so nice to have proof that when I spend money on photography supplies, I'm not just saying its a good investment to make myself feel better! :)

    ReplyDelete
  130. Thank you Kandis for the tip of the day. I have just started putting a hardcopy of my portfolio together so this was a huge help.

    ReplyDelete
  131. Thank you Kandis for the tip about shooting into the sun. I have been using this trick for years however it is difficult to do at first. I just kept trying and 1 day it all clicked.

    ReplyDelete
  132. I agree with taking part of your profit and upgrading your photography. I often use it to go to shops and pick up little things like furniture, nickknacks etc. I am saving for an 85L which is my dream lens. Thank you for the tip.

    ReplyDelete
  133. Already a fan of yours and I liked all the others!

    ReplyDelete
  134. Shared your giveaway on my personal fb site!

    ReplyDelete
  135. I loved your photo tip on saving 50% of your earnings. I haven't gotten paid for my work yet but that's what I intend on doing at first so I can get a better lense! Thanks so much for your mentoring! Love it!

    ReplyDelete
  136. I love the Smoochie Couture
Angel Kisses Bloomer and headband set! I need more baby props!

    ReplyDelete
  137. I think your Tip today was spot-on. I have heard several photographers who get paid for their work say they can't upgrade anything. (Not even purchasing Elements so they can stop using Picnik!). Invest in your business and your business will grow, grow, grow! The better your equipment the more control you have over images. I'm not saying you need the most expensive gear, but upgrades are always a great investment!

    ReplyDelete
  138. I am a HUGE fan of Wish Photography & ALL the vendors apart of the 12 Days of Christmas Giveaway except I was not able to locate LilGiggles-Couture on facebook? It shows a blank page when I click on your link. Wanna make sure I qualify for your amazing giveaways!

    ReplyDelete
  139. I have posted & proclaimed about your blog & the giveaways on my facebook page @Rebecca Nappier-Sahrmann. I will definitely be speading the word about Wish & vendors. Last post was me as well;)I found LilGiggles-Couture! YAH!

    ReplyDelete
  140. i like your tip of the day today. You have to be willing to invest in your business in order to improve your success. Ammie Bryant

    ReplyDelete
  141. Thank you for the tip today! I always worry about who I should give discounts to when I start charging for pictures... I don't want to be mean, but I also don't want to be taken advantage of. Thanks! xoxo

    ReplyDelete
  142. What a great tip for today!! I know it becomes hard to charge your friends and family for what you do and I can't...so I gave up! I love photography and I love shooting photos, but I don't love the business end of it and I feel so very blessed myself that I can never bring myself to charge for what it is I love doing. I'm so glad that I was able to walk away from the business of it and just keep doing what I love. I truly admire all those who are able to make it their business because it really is very hard!

    ReplyDelete
  143. What a great tip today..I agree you should not let your personal friendships determine your prices. I usually say...friends are friends....and business is business and I need to keep them seperate. Not easy always but it's the only way to grow! Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  144. Loving your tips of the day segment. It's great to pass on what you have learned to photographers who may just be starting out or even reminding ones who have been in business a while that it's okay to say no to a job....

    ReplyDelete
  145. So I don't know if this entry counts since I didn't see the tip until today, but...
I love the idea of putting 50% back into your business. I'm not at the point where I am ready to do that yet, but someday perhaps! :)

    ReplyDelete
  146. I know that when I really start making a push to grow a business that I am going to struggle with this concept. I am not very good at telling people that I expect to be paid for what I do!

    ReplyDelete

  151. I think your Tips of the Day are fabulous! I think you will be saving some photographers a whole lot of frustration by posting these. They are all things that photographers need someone to tell them, but may not have a mentor that will. Keep it up!!!

  158. Love your tip of the day today: The W's
everyone needs a goal set or success may never be accomplished or at least their definition of success :) (I have never been able to set goals very well but this is definitely a new years resolution of mine)

  159. I love the tip about looking for inspiration...

    ReplyDelete
  160. Thanks for the tip for inspiration! Such a good one!

    ReplyDelete
  161. Inspiration can be found in so many places. You just have to learn to look at the world around you like you are looking through your viewfinder. Nothing is ordinary to me anymore.

    ReplyDelete
  162. Excellent tip of the day....using different medias is a great way to inspire yourself withe new ideas. I love the fact that you use perfume ads, quite clever!

    ReplyDelete
  163. I loved your tip on inspiration... It's so true, and something I think a lot of people need to realize. True beauty lies in the uniqueness of an object, that's what sets it apart and gives it value

  164. Loved the tip of the day...some great ways to expose yourself with your business cards! I really liked the pop in a bill, simple and clever! Thanks again!

    ReplyDelete
  165. Guess it's time to get some business cards. I'm sure I will feel silly at first passing out cards everywhere I go, but I do think it is a smart plan!

    ReplyDelete
  166. Loved the tip of the day... But I have to admit that it makes me laugh thinking about all the random places you can leave your business cards. It could be a fun game ;)

    ReplyDelete
  167. Great business card tip , I actually have used many businesses that I have found in random places , like tacked on the board of ads at the grocery etc... belensmama at gmail dot com

  169. Thank you for the tip of the day! That's something I have trouble with, since I'm just starting out. I absolutely HATE it when I'm shooting someone (even if it's just for fun) and they act like they are the photographer, not me. They may have a good idea, but it might not look good in the camera. Not everyone understands that

  170. Great tip for today...too often artists get lost into trying to please others, they loose sight of their incredible talents! Thanks for sharing!

  174. The Vendor prize I am most excited about is the one from you, Wish Photography, for the One on One mentoring; I love looking at your photos and have several of your actions but know I could most definitely use some one on one mentoring!!

  175. I shared the Giveaway on my personal FB page as well as my Photography FB page!!

  176. I so agree with your tip today. I took my kids to a photographer that expected me to direct the shoot and tell her exectly what kind of poses I wanted. In the end the kids and I were very frustrated and our pictures were horrible. great tip! Ammie Bryant

  177. Tip of the day: I never thought to fil my "spaces" home..work ect with my work I'd like to sell! I can't wait to get started!!

    ReplyDelete
  178. I didn't get a chance to post about yesterday's tip of the day, if it's against the rules to post a day late please disreguard this.
I'm a new photog myself, and will take any inspiration I can get, wherever it may come from. So if the client gives me an idea, I usually can tweak it a little to make it more appealing in the end photo :)

  186. I really liked the tip of the day...especially the part about the virtual gallery. I agree, it's hard to promote canvases....if you don't have any samples to show. Makes a lot of sense to me....thanks!

  187. Your tip today was excellent. I need to learn to set specific dates for when I will work and when I will be spending time with my family!! Sometimes I think it's nice to hear that from someone else so I don't feel like I am slacking....

    ReplyDelete
  188. I know EXACTLY what you mean when you refer to being "burnt out" when it comes to taking pictures of your own family. My family asks where the pictures I took of them for Halloween and Thanksgiving are.. I never put any of them up, I've been so busy editing clients up until YESTERDAY. Now I feel guilty it took me so long to edit and send them their package, and I'm not sure if it will taint their overall experience with me. I will definitley stop booking MUCH earlier next year. LOVIN the tips! Keep em comin!

    ReplyDelete
  189. Thank you for your tip today... It's so simple, yet effects you SO much! The holidays are a wonderful time, and should be enjoyed... But you won't enjoy them if you're pushing yourself to the limit

    ReplyDelete
  190. Great tip of the day...enjoying the holidays with your family and setting aside time for them is very important. Having a cut off date for photography is a sure way to enjoy lots of great memories with your family. Super advice...thanks!
